Before You Contact Us – Please Read This First:
To help guide our clients more effectively, we’ve added the information below to clarify what types of coins and notes we’re able to purchase.
What We DO Buy
Graded Coins:
These are coins that have been professionally assessed and sealed in tamper-proof holders, often with an official grading label showing the coin’s condition and authenticity. These coins are typically rare, high in value, or in excellent condition.
Proof Coins & Proof Sets:
These are high-quality collector coins made with extra care by the South African Mint. They have a shiny, mirror-like finish, and are usually sold in display cases. Proof coins are struck more than once to show every tiny detail and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. They are ideal for serious collectors.
Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Coins:
These are coins made for collectors, but not quite as perfect as proof coins. They are still in very good condition, not meant for spending, and often come with a Certificate of Authenticity too.
Krugerrands:
We buy both gold and silver Krugerrands, whether new or older.
What We DON’T Buy
Circulated Coins:
These are coins that were used as everyday money, for example, the old 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, R1 and R5 coins. Even if they’re old or have a special design, they were made in large numbers and usually only hold their original face value. Unless extremely rare or in mint condition, they’re not something we buy.
Old South African Banknotes:
Common older notes like for example R1, R2, or R10 from past decades, especially if torn, faded, or heavily worn.
Loose Foreign Coins:
General world coins collected in bulk or from travel, unless they are of specific historical or numismatic value.
